'Memento', (Nolan, 2000, US)

YouTube annotations on 'Memento' opening sequence:

The genre of the film appears to be a thriller due to the fast edits of shots, music that adds tension, the creepy atmosphere, violence, and sense of mystery.

The polaroid leaves audiences wondering what has happened and who is the person in the photograph. We as audiences want to know why the man has been shot dead, and want to know the characters motive and reasons for doing so. Viewers want to be able to understand the connection/relationship between the two - however, the death appears to be revenge as the character shows no emotion when he kills him, and even takes a photograph of it.
